Over the past five years, nearly 700 people, (probably 90% of whom had no abseiling experience), have abseiled down the 120 feet side of the Romford YMCA building. Over £120,000 has been raised for many charities – some national and many local such as First Step and St. Francis Hospice. Family and friends gather to support all the abseilers and the atmosphere is very special. A lot of fun is had and a lot of money raised for some excellent causes. This year, the YMCA are holding a Fun Day at the same time, so that there's something for all the supporters to participate in and enjoy. Leader of the Opposition, Cllr Clarence Barrett (Cranham, RA), has already signed up to the event and will be raising funds for First Step. He said: “This is a great way to raise funds for deserving charities. The activity is led by experienced and qualified instructors who will maintain a high level of safety throughout the event. I just need to remember not to look down!”. To sponsor Cllr Barrett please follow this link http://www.justgiving.com/clarencebarrett1 .
