Wisley was originally a private garden owned by a businessman scientist and inventor who liked to collect and experiment with plants but in 1904 the School of Horticulture was looking for a garden outside the grimy streets of London and Wisley became theirs. Wisley has never looked back, there is always something new to see in addition to a fantastic plant centre, shop, café and dining room. This year's special attraction is the state of the art glasshouse which will inspire any gardener with a greenhouse however tiny. Chris Cole, a member of the Squirrels Heath Garden Club Outings Co-ordination Committee, said: “Wisley is an inspiring place to see; every gardener should go there at least once a year' “There are luscious rose gardens, richly planted borders and loads of trial and test plots for visitors to examine. At only £12 this pilgrimage is not to be missed by anyone with even a passing interest in plants”. The coach leaves Gidea Park at 9.30am and arrives back in the early evening.
