Working for the people of Havering
Age Concern Havering has formed a partnership with the London Fire Brigade to carry out FREE Home Fire Safety Checks and fit smoke alarms. The work will be carried out through the Home Support Service by staff and volunteers trained by the Fire Brigade.
In the UK every year the fire brigade is called out to over 600,000 fires in the home. Every year around 500 people lose their lives in these fires and over 10,000 are injured. According to the statistics those groups most at risk from a residential fire include older people and people who live alone.
Home Fire Safety Checks are FREE to all older or vulnerable people living in Havering. These safety checks cover all aspects of fire safety including use of electrical equipment and fire escape plans. Part of the service includes the FREE installation of smoke alarms with a 10-year battery life. The alarms are designed to be easily tested.
If you or someone you know would benefit from this service please telephone Denise Hollocks at Age Concern Havering on 01708 796605 for further information, to make arrangements for a check to be carried out or to receive details on the full range of services offered by Age Concern Havering.
As the service is FREE there is no reason why anybody should not take up the offer - it could save their life.
