HORNCHURCH OPEN SPACE SAVED!

The Council announced a dramatic U-turn in its decision to sell off land at the corner of Abbs Cross Lane and Hornchurch Road .

At Full Council (6.2.08) Council Leader Michael White announced that, in view of the huge opposition from residents, the land would not now be sold off and efforts will be made to incorporate this piece of land into Harrow Lodge Park .

The Residents' Association have continually protested against plans to sell off the land and launched a petition which attracted thousands of supporters. The RA also recently announced plans to have the site legally defined as a village green.

Local RA councillor, John Mylod, said: “The land at the corner of Hornchurch Road and Abbs Cross Lane is a significant area of 2.3 acres. This is not only open space but marks the Gateway into and out of Hornchurch. It is a unique characteristic and I am very pleased that the wishes of thousands of people who opposed this decision have had their voice heard”.
