Roomes store of Upminster is set to undergo a major transformation which will see a newly built Marks & Spencer outlet come to the area.
Plans are for the existing homeware shop to close and the ground floor converted into a Marks & Spencer Food Hall. On top will be 14 flats with parking facilities available.
The other main retail store, which houses fashion products, will be refurbished and the furniture store opposite will be extended to allow the homeware section to relocate.
Joint Managing Director, Stephen Roome, said: “At Roomes we have always seen a healthy town centre and the future of Roomes is closely linked and we have always invested heavily in the business in Upminster.
“These plans, we believe, stay true to that policy. They will allow us to take Roomes forward for future generations to meet the major retail challenges ahead and it will give the town a much needed retail boost”.
