£200,000 BOOST FOR RAPHAEL PARK |
Raphael Park in Romford is set to receive a £200,000 grant from Veolia Havering Riverside Trust.
The Veolia Riverside Trust funding, together with a £1.7m grant from the Heritage lottery Fund will pay for a major restoration and refurbishment of the park to begin next year.
One of the major improvements to the park will involve the area around the Park Lodge which will be renovated to accommodate a café with a terrace and new areas for offices and community rooms.
Visitors to the park will also benefit from a complete restoration of the Summer Theatre Garden and the Bandstand so that community groups like the Romford Summer Theatre Group can use the facilities to stage events and performances.
The park will remain open while the renovations take place, and throughout the works emphasis will be placed on protecting wildlife, parkland space and original species of plants while new planting and other works take place.
Work will also include improving and restoring entrance gates, benches and walkways in the park. In addition new traditional plants will be brought in to enhance wildlife and local biodiversity.
It will start in 2012 and will take approximately 10 months to complete.
