CRIME FIGURES TUMBLE IN HAVERING

Figures released by the Metropolitan Police indicate a significant decrease in the number of offences committed in Havering for the year ending January 2008.

The total number offences for the 12 month period to January 2008 amounted to 17,294 compared with 20,627 for the same period in 2007, equating to a 19 per cent decrease in recorded offences.

Among the most significant reductions were:

  • 100% drop in gun enabled crime (from 60 to 30)
  • 40% drop in motor vehicle crime (from 3,914 to 2,788)
  • 15% drop in all violence against the person (from 3,756 to 3,271)
  • 13% drop in all burglaries (from 2,520 to 2,222)
  • 12% drop in domestic crime (from 1,136 to 1,016)

Key activities over recent months include a specific operation targeting drug cultivation in Rainham, a series of automated number plate reader operations to reduce motor vehicle crime and three arrests in Collier Row for forcing entry and attempting to steal keys to a car that sat in the driveway.
