SAVE HAROLD WOOD!

A website has been created to raise awareness of the proposed re-development of the former Harold Wood Hospital .

Countryside Property Developers have put forward a proposal over 800 dwellings on the old Harold Wood Hospital site, off Gubbins Lane , Harold Wood.

The creator of the website said: “This website has been created to raise awareness of the proposed re-development of the Harold Wood Hospital site and help communication to all concerned. 

“I am a Harold Wood resident and wanted to make sure that information is freely available to as many people as possible. In today's world, the internet is the most accessible portal of information. Not everyone has access to the internet, but I'm sure everyone knows someone that does.

“This proposal has sent shock-waves through the community. Anger felt by most existing residents is about the sheer quantity. Any town would struggle to cope if the population ballooned by 15% within 3 years. Another cause for concern is the style and approach to the development. High-fronted blocks on Gubbins lane and a 9 storey block (yes…NINE!) will dominate the area. 

“From a personal perspective, I appreciate that not everyone feels the same way about the proposal. There is no doubt, many people will welcome the opportunity to live in a sought-after area, close to a mainline station and easily commutable to London . I also appreciate that it would not be feasible to expect the whole area to be turned into parkland….we are a London borough after all!  But, I also fear the worst and cant help thinking this proposal is based on money-making greed rather than what is really needed by the community or London as a whole”.
