Additional works to repair the parapets was identified in April last year and the necessary off-site construction of the support structures is now complete. However, it will take at least three months, working 7 days a week, to install the new parapets. During the period of works the flyover will be fully closed with traffic diverted around Gallows Corner Roundabout. There will be partial lane closures on the roundabout and its approach during off-peak periods and there will be inevitable delays to motorists and bus routes 174, 496 and 498. The Gallows Corner two-lane flyover was erected as a temporary structure in 1970, for an intended 12 to 15 year period. Since then, the flyover has been maintained by a succession of owners since its construction comprising Havering Borough Council, the Department for Transport, the Highways Agency and, since 2000, Transport for London (TfL). 2.5.09 |
