JUNE CRIME FIGURES DIP BY 2.2% |
Figures released by the Metropolitan Police show a 2.2% decrease in the total number of offences committed in Havering for the year ending June 2010. Motor vehicle crime saw a 13% drop on last year while domestic crime saw a 35% increase. The total number offences for the 12-month period to June 2010 amounted to 17,172 compared with 17,544 for the same period in 2009.
Among the changes were:
- 13% decrease in motor vehicle crime (from 2,419 to 2,138)
- 14% increase in all violence against the person (from 3,132 to 3,573)
- 3.5% decrease in all burglaries (from 2,649 to 2,559)
- 3% decrease in racist crime (from 235 to 228)
- 35% increase in domestic crime (from 879 to 1,190)
Police in Havering organised a youth forum at the Queens Theatre in Romford in June. Young people from schools across the borough discussed important policing issues with local officers
Local police recently undertook a cross-border traffic operation with neighbouring Essex Police. The operation yielded great results - over 150 vehicles were stopped and checked, resulting in eight arrests and the seizure of five vehicles
The Safer Transport Team helped a local internet café with a day out for residents with learning difficulties. Officers who regularly work with the mentors and students accompanied them for a day out at Southend-on-sea
