DIP IN APRIL CRIME FIGURES |
Figures released by the Metropolitan Police show a 3.2% decrease in the total number of offences committed in Havering for the year ending April 2010. Motor vehicle crime saw a 26% drop on last year while domestic crime saw a 27% increase. The total number offences for the 12-month period to April 2010 amounted to 17,196 compared with 17,761 for the same period in 2009.
Among the changes were:
- 26% decrease in motor vehicle crime (from 2,588 to 2,057)
- 11% increase in all violence against the person (from 3,127 to 3,469)
- 3.5% increase in all burglaries (from 2,576 to 2,668)
- 9% decrease in racist crime (from 238 to 218)
- 27% increase in domestic crime (from 881 to 1,122)
There was one homicide in the year to April January 2010, the same as the year ending in April 2009.
Police in Havering have been working with the council to offer residents property marking kits as part on an ongoing burglary initiative. Homes across the borough will benefit from the cutting-edge property marking technology over the next year
Havering Police Cadets took part in International Women's Day on the borough. Dressed in period police costumes, they gave out crime prevention advice and a history lesson to all attendees at the event
28 police volunteers at Havering achieved Asdan qualifications in community volunteering. At a celebration and prizegiving event, the volunteers received certificates and praise from Supt Phil Morgan and Lead Lecturer Mandy White
