AVON ROAD SHOP APPEAL REJECTED

Following concerns raised by Cranham Residents' Association councillors, the council refused planning permission (P1537.09) to build an additional shop with a 3-bedroom maisonette on land adjacent to 151 Avon Road (land next to fish and chip shop), however the applicants lodged an appeal which was subsequently refused by the planning inspector on 30th July 2010.

The reason for refusal is given as - The proposed development would, by reason of its height, bulk and mass, roof form/dormer window and prominent location appear as an unacceptably dominant and intrusive feature in the Front Lane streetscene, harmful to the appearance of the surrounding area contrary to Policy DC61 of the Local Development Framework Core Strategy and Development Control Development Plan Document.
