BLOOMING SUCCESS FOR AVON ROAD

Many congratulations go to the parade of shops in Avon Road , Cranham, for winning the best commercial category in last month's Havering in Bloom competition.

To add to that success, Avon Road were also awarded a Certificate of Excellence from the ‘ London in Bloom' organisation.

The shopkeepers put in a huge effort to transform the area into a floral oasis with baskets and flowers adorning each shop.

Much of the credit must go to Jackie Long (Balloons in Wonderland) who co-ordinated the effort. Jackie said: “I would like to say that without the help of Bedfords Road Nursery, who supplied the baskets and troughs at a very competitive price, and Essex and Suffolk Water who kindly donated the stand pipe this would not have been possible. 

“On 5 th October at Romford Town Hall the awards ceremony took place which Vivienne Miles (Butchers) and myself attended. When we saw the pictures of the other entrants in the categories we realised how high the standards were.  Imagine our delight to win the commercial category.”

Congratulations and thank you to all shopkeepers and other volunteers who have brought about a very welcome improvement to the community.
