ALDI'S SCRAP CCTV CAR PARK ENFORCEMENT

After much discussion, representations, protests and pleas for common sense to prevail, Aldi supermarket have agreed to scrap the CCTV enforcement cameras from the car park behind the store in Gaynes Road, Upminster.

The move comes after Cllr Linda Van Den Hende (RA, Upminster) raised the issue of ‘double' parking enforcement at a recent Full Council meeting.

The removal will be effective from Monday (23.3.09) and will be a welcome relief to the many users who were subject to the ‘two-tier' parking enforcement system.

Under the old arrangements the car park was policed by both the Council and the parking eye CCTV system which enforced a two-hour limit.

As the camera clocked motorists entering the car park, rather than when a ticket was purchased, the two hour limit gave no grace for finding a space, loading and unloading. As such, many users received a penalty notice from the CCTV system even though the car park ticket was valid.

The Council will now be solely responsible for enforcement at the car park.
