VEHICLES SIEZED IN POLICE OPERATION

Figures released by the Metropolitan Police show a 5% decrease in the total number of offences committed in Havering for the year ending January 2010. Motor vehicle crime saw a 34% drop on last year while burglaries saw a 11% increase. The total number offences for the 12-month period to January 2010 amounted to 17,135 compared with 17,992 for the same period in 2009.

Among the changes were:

  • 34% decrease in motor vehicle crime (from 2,759 to 2,048)
  • 11% increase in all violence against the person (from 3,039 to 3,378)
  • 10% increase in all burglaries (from 2,481 to 2,721)
  • 12% increase in racist crime (from 216 to 242)
  • 22% increase in domestic crime (from 836 to 1,016)

There was one homicide in the year to January 2010 compared with one to the year ending in January 2009.

Police carried out an Automatic Number Plate Recognition operation in Rainham to address one of the wards priorities. Three people were arrested, 18 fixed penalties given and four vehicles were seized for no insurance.
