First elected to represent Cranham in 1968, the then Romford Times reported: “The first woman RA candidate became a councillor last night – with 825 votes more than her Conservative runner-up. Housewife Mrs Louise Sinclair, of Hall Lane, Upminster took Cranham with ward partners Cllr William Topp and John Squire. Mrs Sinclair said she was “very pleased to join her Ratepayer colleagues'. Since that time Louise has achieved much civic notability. Twice Mayor (1988/89 & 2004/05), Freeman of the Borough (2003), Honorary Alderman (2006), Joint Leader of the Administration (1996/97) and has served on a wide range of committees. Although stepping down from the Cranham Residents' Association Committee, Louise will still be carrying on in her role as president of the Upminster & Cranham Residents' Association. Chairman of the Cranham Residents' Association and Leader of the Residents' Group, Cllr Clarence Barrett, presented Louise with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Association as a gesture of appreciation to her long service. Cllr Barrett said: “It has been a privilege to work with Louise and she is the embodiment of inspiration and commitment to us all. Her contribution to the people and community of Cranham and Havering has been immense and we are all truly grateful for her years of loyal service”. Louise Sinclair said: “I am very grateful to all those I have worked with over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed serving the community”.
