JUNE CRIME FIGURES

Figures released by the Metropolitan Police indicate a 3 per cent drop in the number of offences committed in Havering for the year ending June 2008, but there was a 3 per cent increase in gun enabled crime.

The total number offences for the 12 month period to June 2008 amounted to 17,923 compared with 18,489 for the same period in 2007, equating to a 3 per cent decrease in recorded offences.

Among the changes were:

  • 3% increase in gun enabled crime (from 37 to 38)
  • 9% drop in motor vehicle crime (from 3,163 to 2,892)
  • 9% drop in all violence against the person (from 3,431 to 3,156)
  • 3% drop in all burglaries (from 2,353 to 2,279)
  • 4% increase in racist crime (from 195 to 202)
  • 20% drop in domestic crime (from 1,074 to 892)

There were 2 homicides in the year to June 2008 compared with 6 to the year ending in June 2007.
