PARLIAMENTARY BOUNDARIES REDRAWN

The Boundary Commission are consulting on an extensive set of boundary changes which will impact on Havering residents.

Following government proposals to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600, the Boundary Commission is tasked with redrawing parliamentary boundaries to reflect the change. The new criteria is that each constituency should have between 72,810 and 80,473 electors.

For the residents of Havering wards the proposals pan out as follows:

Romford - Emerson Park, Gooshays, Harold Wood, Havering Park, Heaton, Pettits, Romford and Squirrel's Heath

Hornchurch & Upminster - Cranham, Elm Park, Hacton, Hylands, Rainham, St Andrew's, South Hornchurch and Upminster

Dagenham North - Brooklands and Mawneys

The maps (click here to view) attached give a graphical view of the before and after.

While it was not possible to create two separate constituencies comprising of only Havering wards, the new boundaries will increase the number of Havering electors in 'Havering only' constituencies.

The existing boundaries contain 151,546 (84%) electors which are in constituencies made up solely of Havering wards, however the new proposals will see that number increase by 8,847 (160,393 - 89%).The consultation finishes on 5th December and residents are encouraged to participate with their views.
